QLD White Cypress Pine

White cypress is one of the most durable Australian softwood timber species. It can grow to around 20-30 metres and have a diameter between 500-600mm. It is mostly found in western New South Wales and western Queensland. The sapwood is creamy-white and the heartwood it varies from light yellow to light brown. It has a straight grain and an even texture. Another added feature of this species is its knots. White cypress has amazing natural durability due to the resins found in the wood. It is resistant to termites. It will last more than 40 years above ground and up to 25 years in-ground. White cypress is a firm timber and when dressed it has a beautiful smooth finish. Pre-drilling is highly recommended before fixing with screws or nails. White cypress can be painted, stained or polished.  White cypress usually is sold as sawn timber in the fencing industry, products like posts, rails, pickets and even decking are very popular, it can also be used for pergolas, carports, gazebos and for any other outdoors project.

Concrete

Australian Builders Concrete has done all the hard work of getting the right mix of cement, aggregate and sand. Dry premix concrete can be used for jobs like post footings, pathways, concrete slabs, repair work, brickwork footings and for any other non-structural use. Use the least possible amount of water to get maximum strength. You must use the concrete mix immediately after mixing it. You will need to use around 100 x 20kg bags of premix concrete to make a cubic meter of Concrete. The curing process starts immediately after the concrete has been mixed. For maximum strength the first seven days of the curing process are very critical. Australian Builders Concrete comes in 20kg bags, lifting it by yourself could lead to an injury. It is bly recommended that you have another person helping you. You can store dry concrete mix bags for up to six months as long as they are stored in a dry place.

Cement

Australian Builders General Blend (GB) Cement is suitable to be used in a lot of different building applications. It is ideal for jobs like footings for fence posts, brick work, paving, foundations, brick work mortar and the general repairing of concrete. Australian Builders GB cement is a blend of general purpose cement and ground granulated blast furnace slag. This product meets Australian standard AS3972 “Portland and Blended Cement”. The curing process starts immediately after the cement has been used. For maximum strength the first seven days of the curing process are very critical. GB Cement comes in 20kg bags, lifting it by yourself could lead to an injury. It is bly recommended that you have another person helping you. You can store cement for up to six months as long as it is stored in a dry place.

Rapid Set Concrete

Australian Builders Quick Set Concrete has done all the hard work of getting the right mix of cement, aggregate, sand and setting additives in order to achieve a 15 minute set time. Dry premix rapid set concrete can be used for jobs like post footings, repair work, landscape jobs and for any other non-structural use.

Rapid set concrete mix has lots of advantages but there are a few things that you need to be aware of. If you can’t use the product immediately it is recommended to use standard premix concrete, because quick set concrete will set in only 15 minutes, also don’t mix it in a wheel barrow and do not use it in conjunction with aluminium products.

You must use the concrete mix immediately after mixing it.

Radiata Pine

Radiata pine is found in Australia in the form of timber plantations. It is widely used in framing timber, lining boards, laminated beams, decking, plinth boards, rails, palings, posts, bearers, joists and sleepers. It is easily treated with preservatives like CCA, LOSP, MicroPro and Tanalith E.

Radiata pine has a fine texture with knots, since it’s a softwood is very easy to work with. The colour varies from a white sapwood to light brown heartwood and generally has a straight grain.

Radiata pine is not naturally resistant to termites, unless it is treated to a H3 level which will also increase its durability to up to 40 years. Radiata Pine can receive treatment up a H6 level which will make it suitable for marine use.

If used outside painting will protect Radiata Pine timber further and will minimize warping.

Blackbutt Timber

Blackbutt is a fast growing species found in the coastal areas of New South Wales and Southern Queensland. Blackbutt timber is a highly prized Australian hardwood. Due to its natural high durability (class 1 above ground) it is used in decking, flooring, cladding, lining, screening and for many structural applications. Blackbutt timber has an even texture, interlocked grain and usually is very straight. The colour varies from yellow to pink to brown, gum veins are common especially in lower grade products, this is very popular for those preferring the rustic look. Blackbutt timber is naturally resistant to termites and lyctid borer. It is suitable to be oiled or stained. Blackbutt timber is one of the only seven timber species suitable to be used in bushfire areas according to Victorian building commission as long as the timber is at least 18mm thick.

Grey Gum Timber

Mountain grey gum grows in parts of Victoria, and on the coastal side of the southern tablelands of New South Wales, it is a moderately durable Australian hardwood. Grey Gum timber is commonly used for fencing, screening, flooring and landscaping products like, rails, palings plinth boards, sleepers, posts and battens. Grey gum timber has an even texture and straight grain. The colour varies from yellow to pink to brown, gum veins are very common. It is very easy to work with. Grey Gum is one of the most affordable and readily available Australian hardwoods on the market.

Mahogany Timber

Southern mahogany grows in coastal New South Wales and eastern Victoria. It is durable and one of the fastest growing Australian hardwood species. Mahogany timber is used for decking, flooring, posts and sleepers. Mahogany timber has an even texture and interlocking grain. The colour varies from deep pink to red-brown. It is very uncommon to be affected by lyctid borer.

Stringybark Timber

Yellow Stringybark grows in the south coastal areas of New South Wales and eastern Victoria. It has been used for years in flooring, decking, screening, cladding, posts and sleepers. Yellow Stringybark timber has a relatively consistent yellow to yellow-brown heartwood colour, a medium to fine grain that usually is straight. Gum veins are very common. It has moderate durability. Pre-drilling is recommended for screwing. Yellow stringybark also can be stained and oiled.

Grey Ironbark Timber

Grey Ironbark grows in northern New South Wales and Queensland. Grey Ironbark timber is a highly prized Australian hardwood. Due to its naturally high durability (class 1) it is used in fencing and landscaping for posts and sleepers, decking, flooring, cladding, lining, screening and for many structural applications. It is one of the hardest and most durable Australian hardwoods. It has an even texture and straight grain. Grey ironbark greatly varies in colour from a light grey sapwood is almost white to darker red and brown heartwood. Grey Ironbark timber is naturally resistant to termites and lyctid borer. It is suitable to be oiled or stained, the timber is very dense, it is best to pre-drill before screwing.

Red Ironbark Timber

Red Ironbark grows in Victoria, New South Wales and southern Queensland. Red Ironbark timber is a highly prized Australian hardwood. Due to its extremely high durability (class 1) it is used in fencing and landscaping for posts and sleepers, decking, flooring, cladding, lining, screening and for many structural applications. It is one of the hardest and most durable Australian hardwoods.

It has an even texture and the interlocked grain. Red ironbark greatly varies in colour from a light yellow sapwood to red-brown heartwood.

Red Ironbark timber is naturally resistant to termites and lyctid borer. It is suitable to be oiled or stained, the timber is very dense, it is best to pre-drill before screwing.

Merbau Timber (Kwila)

Merbau timber is the most popular hardwood in the world. It grows in many different regions of South East Asia including far North Queensland. It is highly durable, hard and stable.

You will find merbau timber to be used in just about any construction application. Decking, fencing, screening, cladding, posts, sleepers, outdoors furniture and for structural applications.

Merbau Timber in Australia cannot be imported unless it has certification that has come from legally managed forests. 

Merbau Timber has an even texture and usually interlocked grain. When fresh cut is yellow brown and as it gets exposed to the sun it will get a darker red-brown colour.

Merbau timber is naturally resistant to termites. It is suitable to be oiled or stained. Gum bleeding is common. Pre-drilling is recommended.

Silvertop Ash Timber

Silvertop Ash grows in central and southern coastal areas of New South Wales, eastern Victoria and north east Tasmania. It is a durable Australian hardwood especially if it’s used above ground. Very popular as screening, decking, cladding and fence posts. 

Silvertop Ash timber has medium texture and interlocked grain. Its colour varies from pink to brown, gum veins and pinhole borers are common. It is suitable to be oiled or stained.

Spotted Gum Timber

Spotted gum due to its great appearance and high durability is the most popular Australian hardwood species. It mainly grows from northeast Victoria all the way up to the northern tablelands of Queensland.

Spotted gum timber is used in structural and high end applications such as decking, screening, cladding, posts, sleepers and outdoors furniture.

Spotted gum timber has an uneven texture and occasionally a wavy grain. The colour pattern changes depending on the location. The southern parts (VIC-NSW) produce light brown colours and less of colour variation. QLD spotted gum is darker and from one board to the other can have great colour variations from light brown to very dark red-brown.

Primed Timber H3 Finger Jointed

Primed finger jointed treated pine timber is an engineered product that maintains all the advantages of timber but having been processed (removal of knots) in a way to minimize most of the timber defects such us warping, splitting and twisting. Then the timber is H3 LOSP treated for protection against decay and insect attack. The result is creating long and straight lengths of wood. Finally it receives an even coat of primer, making the final coats of painting a breeze.  

Solomit Brush Fencing Panels

Solomit Brushwood panels are made out of Maleleuca Broombush which is a plant that grows in the desert areas of Australia. In particular Maleleuca Uncinata is the variant that is used in Solomit Brushwood fences.

River red gum is an amazing Australian hardwood species usually found along rivers especially along Murray River between VIC and NSW.

Redgum is a renowned timber for outdoor use, it is highly durable, b and has a distinct deep red colour that makes it so popular. Red gum timber can be used in any external or internal application but commonly is used as sleepers, posts, decking and flooring.

Red gum timber has coarse texture and interlocked grain, gum veins are very common. The colour varies from red to dark red brown.
